A regularly scheduled board meeting of DYHA took place on Monday, November 10, 2014 at 7:45pm at Stamford Twin Rinks.  Present board members were Art Flynn, Pat Mullin, Jeff Eccleston, David Hill, Larry Paredes, Tom Raymond, John Massey, Dave Kreppein, Lisa McCarthy and Gigi Williams.


President’s Remarks

Midget Major and Midget Minor Declared teams were congratulated on their Tier II CHC State championship performances.  Both teams skated their way into the final, ending their seasons as Runner-Up.  Congratulations to the players and coaches on another strong showing.

The topic of a co-operative community fundraiser to benefit the family of a local referee was introduced. 

Chelsea Piers was thanked for hosting the Family Fun Day on November 1, 2014, which was well attended and enjoyed by all.

The U12A and U12B Ice Cats were congratulated on their VT Veterans Day Classic wins in their brackets.



Update on Voting Members for Annual Meeting provided.

Annual Meeting will be held December 2, 2014 at the Darien Library – Community Room.

The meeting will be open to all members and presentation preparation was discussed.



An update on the certification of coaches was given.

Mite and Squirt goalie clinic had 21 participants.  Planning in place for another session before end of 2014.

Skating Skills session underway.  Participation awards are given to team with highest attendance.

New structure with Junior / HS assistants to skills director well-received.


Girls Travel

Update on 2 weekends of VT Veterans Day Classic provided.



Mite C Supplemental tryout held November 2, 2014.

29 skaters participated.  19 skaters and 1 goalie rostered.

USA Hockey guidelines (for ages of players able to participate in full-ice games) continue to be followed.


CHC Representative

The process for a formal complaint/evaluation of referees by coaches was discussed.  The CHC representative will administer a template, and all forms to be submitted to CHC Representative and Travel Co-Director.



Candidates for legal counsel continue to be interviewed. 

Pat Mullin presented the candidates for the role of Travel Co-Director with absent board members calling in and a conflicted board member excused.  Questions were asked and answered, and at the conclusion thereof, with a quorum present, the interview committee made its recommendations that were put to the board for approval:

Buzz Olson nominated for the role of Darien Youth Hockey Association Vice-President - Approved  – Buzz Olson will assume the role of Vice President effective immediately and will be introduced to the membership at the annual meeting.

Dave Kreppein nominated for the role of Travel Co-Director - Approved – Dave Kreppein will continue to fulfil his role as Co-House Director until such time as a replacement is identified and approved by the board.
