Mite House Program Description
The DYHA Mite House Program is comprised almost entirely of 7 and 8 year olds. Mite House continues the TEAM based skill development model used in Mighty Mites albeit with an increased focus on more advanced skills and an understanding of full ice hockey concepts.
We will hold a mandatory skating evaluation (this is not a try-out) in October prior to the start of the season. These evaluations will be used to create 10 to 12 balanced teams for games. Each team will be coached by a volunteer parent coach(es) with a hockey background that has received or is in the process of receiving their Level 1 coaching certification from USA Hockey. Mites will have one weekly ADM based practice (conducted by DYHA professional coaches) and one weekend morning game (Saturday or Sunday) with the bench run by parent coaches.
Mite House teams will participate in intra-league play with other teams, the Shannon Cup in mid December and will begin a playoff run to Super Sunday that crowns a Mite House Champion in early March.
