Social Media Responsibility Guidelines
The need for a Social Media Responsibility guideline was discussed. The discussion covered a review of peer organizations’ approaches, the umbrella phrasing of DYHA’s existing code of conduct and the need for education. It was highlighted that online behavior meets the definition of conduct that can reflect poorly on the player and association. It was suggested that in addition to specifying social media conduct in the association code, the expectation of player conduct is addressed in the Coach/Player briefing at the start of the season and noted in the Manager’s handbook for Coach/Parent meeting agenda.
A memo was presented outlining the content and board member responsibilities in establishing a Facebook page and Twitter feed for DYHA. David Johnson will oversee and Gigi Williams will be temporary Social Media Coordinator until a volunteer is identified.
