A regularly scheduled board meeting of DYHA took place on Monday, October 8, 2013 at 7:45pm at Stamford Twin Rinks.  Present board members were Todd Halloran, John von Stade, Art Flynn, John Fraser, David Hill, Dawn Bryson, Larry Paredes, Lisa McCarthy, Pete Canelli, David Kreppein, Tom Raymond and Gigi Williams.

President’s Remarks
Todd Halloran welcomed guest Tom Regan – President of the Connecticut Hockey Conference (CHC).

Guest Remarks
Tom Regan provided an overview of the State of Play in Connecticut and the Region, as well as covering challenges and expectations being met, both internally and as an affiliate of USA Hockey.  USA Hockey’s adoption of the SafeSport program was covered.  Questions from and to the board were both asked and answered. At the end of this segment of the meeting he was thanked for his time, and he departed.

The members of the association and the board were thanked for their participation as donors, attendees and volunteers in the associations 40th Anniversary celebrations and party, held on October 5, 2013.  Financial results of the Anniversary activities, benefiting Friends of DYHA as well us donations made at registration to Friends of DYHA were presented.

The nomination committee tasked with recommending a candidate to fill the Communication Director position made its report.  The board voted on the committee’s recommendation and will be presented to the Voting Members for approval.

CHC Representative
The need for proper equipment (and referees enforcing 2 minute delay of game penalties if players not properly equipped) was discussed.  Neck- and Mouth-guards and the most common items missing.

Goalies in Senior Major discussed, as well as player evaluations at all levels.
Senior Major, Squirt, Mite and Mighty Mites teams formed, and equipment to be distributed by October 17, 2013.

Larry Paredes, Counsel, will serve as DYHA’s SafeSport Representative and provided an overview of the program.  All coaches, board members and volunteers with direct contact with or supervision over minor participants are required to complete SafeSport program training.  The time commitment involved in this training is approximately 90 minutes.  During the discussion, Mr. Paredes answered all questions regarding the SafeSport program as were raised.

Other business
Manhattanville College Community Outreach approach to the board discussed.
