The DYHA Squirt House Program is comprised almost entirely of 9 and 10 year olds. Squirt House continues the TEAM based skill development model used in Mites albeit with ever increasing levels of skill development, focus on full ice offensive and defensive concepts and the first full ice games with full ice rules fully enforced.
We will hold a mandatory skating evaluation (this is not a try-out) in October prior to the start of the season. These evaluations will be used to create 6 balanced teams for games. Each team will be coached by a volunteer parent coach(es) with a hockey background that has received or is in the process of receiving their Level 1 coaching certification from USA Hockey. Squirts will have one weekly ADM based practice (conducted by DYHA professional coaches) and one Sunday morning game with the bench run by parent coaches.
Squirt House teams will participate in intra-league play with other teams, the Shannon Cup in mid December and will begin a playoff run to Super Sunday that crowns a Mite House Champion in early March!
Squirt House also participates in the WestConn Hockey League, a "travel light" experience with several games throughout the season scheduled against other local programs that have included Stamford, Rye, Shelton, and Ridgefield.
