DYHA believes in the importance of hiring great coaches for our players and teams. All of our coaches have achieved success in their own hockey careers and have demonstrated excellence in both teaching skating & hockey skills and in coaching competitive hockey teams.
Many of our coaches offer private lessons or off season programs. Feel free to reach out to them if their contact info is listed.
Corey Badeau Is a Rhode Island native who was a four-year varsity hockey player at Woonsocket High School and named All-State Defenseman in his junior and senior years. He was a recipient of the Hobey Baker Award in 2010 as the team’s captain. After High School Corey went on to play 4 years of club hockey at Sacred Heart University where he won two NECHA Conference Championships in 2013 and 2014. Corey started his coaching career at the Fairfield Ice Academy giving private lessons, running multiple clinics that specialized in fundamentals, power skating, and stickhandling. Following FIA, Corey became the Adult Hockey Coordinator at Chelsea Piers Connecticut where he managed adult hockey programs, and led the Mite Development and Learn to Play programs. In addition to having successfully coached DYHA Squirts, Peewees, and Bantams, Corey also serves as the Darien High School JV Head Coach. In his role as the Assistant Hockey Director at Stamford Twin Rinks Corey manages and coaches Impact Hockey Skills LLC clinics, camps and Connecticut’s premier spring hockey program, the CT Breakers. Established in collaboration with DYHA, Twin Rinks programming and theCT Breakers provide local players the opportunity to train with top-end coaches in a travel hockey environment while still allowing them to play spring sports. Michael Bruno
Coach
Michael Bruno grew up in Darien, playing hockey for DYHA from Mites through Bantams. His love for the game started early on and he knew he wanted it to be a part of his life.
Mike was a four year varsity hockey player at Darien High School. He excelled through his high school years, being named team Captain his senior year. Following his high school career, he pursued his passion for hockey at the collegiate level, joining the club hockey team at Endicott College.
Mike transitioned from player to coach where he has over eight years of experience with the Connecticut Junior Rangers, Ridgefield Amateaur Hockey Association and DYHA. Mike brings his knowledge, passion, and love for the game of hockey to coaching the next generation of hockey players. His coaching philosophy emphasizes skill development, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence both on and off the ice. Mike is a level 4 USA Hockey Coach.

Dominic Civitano
Coach
Dominic Civitano started playing hockey when he was 7 years old for the Westchester Vipers travel team moving on to play for the CT Jr. Rangers, finishing his youth career with Elite Hockey Academy as a leader in goals scored and face-off wins. Since 2020 Dom has been playing in the EHL for the CT Roughriders, Protect Jr Ducks, Ct Chiefs, and Valley Jr Warriors. Dom brings energy, passion and a keen eye for offensive tactics to his coaching style.

Devin Edgerton
Coach
Devin Edgerton is a highly motivated entrepreneur and retired professional hockey player from Saskatchewan, Canada. Throughout his 17-year pro career, he established dozens of high level relationships with international dealers from Easton, CCM, Bauer and Warrior. Devin played junior hockey with the Humbold Broncos and turned professional in 1991. Devin spent the next five season playing in the East Coast Hockey League and the International Hockey League. He played for the Winston-Salem Thunderbirds, Wheeling Thunderbirds and Peoria Rivermen among others. In 1996 Devin left North America to spend the remainder of his career in the European leagues. He moved to the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga in 2006 with EC VSV where he played two season before retiring in 2008. As a Centerman Devin accrued over 900 points in his 17 year career.
Devin also coaches teams, clinics, camps, and lessons at Twin Rinks, home of Connecticut’s premier spring hockey program, the CT Breakers. Established in collaboration with DYHA, Twin Rinks programming, and the CT Breakers provide players the opportunity to train with top-end coaches in a travel hockey environment while still allowing them to play spring sports. John Fahey Jr.
Coach
John Fahey Jr. joined DYHA from the Norwalk Roughriders where he was most recently coaching in the PeeWee ranks. He has been a youth travel coach for the past seven years, including stints at Greenwich and CPCT, with teams ranging from Mites to Bantams. John grew up in the Stamford Sharks program and played 3 years for Stamford High School where he was Captain his senior year. John’s specialty is developing young players skills and passion for the game of hockey. John is a USA Hockey Level 5 certified coach.

Chris Furtak
Coach
Chris Furtak grew up in Fairfield County, played youth hockey for New Milford Youth Hockey, attended New Fairfield - Immaculate and went on to play Varsity hockey for Manhattanville College before transferring to the University of Connecticut. Following graduation, he attained his master’s in history-Education from UConn, and made hockey his career, working for Blueline Sports. He spent four years as an Assistant Coach for New Canaan High School and has coached Squirts for DYHA since 2015 and is currently Head coach of Squirt AA team. Chris is a USA Hockey Level 3 certified coach.
Chris also coaches teams, clinics, camps, and lessons at Twin Rinks, home of Connecticut’s premier spring hockey program, the CT Breakers. Andrew Furtak
Coach
Andrew Furtak learned to skate at the Darien Ice Rink under Jamie Tropsa and Al Gurney through the Blueline Hockey Academy. He played youth hockey with New Milford and Western Youth Hockey, then went on to play high school hockey for the New Milford/Immaculate co-op and ACHA club hockey at Western Connecticut State University.
Andrew has been coaching with DYHA since 2015 and will serve as the Assistant Coach for the 2025–26 Squirt AA Major team. He is a USA Hockey Level 3 certified coach and has focused on skill development and team play at the Squirt level for nearly a decade.
In addition to coaching with DYHA, Andrew works with players year-round through clinics, camps, and private lessons at Stamford Twin Rinks, home of the CT Breakers spring hockey program—a DYHA partner offering high-level training in a flexible, competitive setting.

Paul Hammer
Coach
Paul Hammer grew up in Minnesota and was an All-State and All-American selection at Aurora Hoyt Lakes High School. He went on to be a four-year letter winner at Boston College, where his 1978 team reached the NCAA Division I National Championship final. After college, Paul played professionally in Europe for one season.
Paul has been coaching with DYHA since 1996 and is the Head Coach of the 2025–26 Midget Minor White team. He holds a USA Hockey Level 4 coaching certification and brings decades of experience and leadership to the program.

Bob Mazzone
Coach
Bob Mazzone has been coaching with DYHA since 1994 and currently serves as the Head Coach of the 2025–26 Mite A team. He led DYHA’s Mini-Mite program from 1995 to 2005 and has coached across multiple levels, including Mite, Squirt, and Ice Cats teams. In recent years, Bob has continued to coach at the Mite and Squirt levels and has guided several teams to CHC state championships.
Bob grew up playing in Massachusetts, where he was a team captain and All-League selection at Wakefield High School. He went on to play a post-grad year at Phillips Andover and four years of JV hockey at Harvard, where he was team captain as a senior. He is a USA Hockey Level 4 certified coach with a long-standing dedication to developing young players both on and off the ice.

John Miserendino
Coach
John Miserendino originally from Southbury, CT, John Miserendino began coaching during his senior year of high school with the WP Indians. Over the past decade, he has become one of the top youth hockey coaches in Connecticut, with experience ranging from 8U to 18U and at the high school level—most notably leading Wilton High School through its most successful seasons to date.
John currently serves as DYHA’s Mite Development Coordinator and Head Coach for the 2025/26 Mite AA and Mite A1 teams. He’s also the 2025/26 Assistant Coach for the Squirt AA Minor team and Head Coach of the Midget Major team.
Professionally, John has served as Director of Hockey Operations at Danbury Ice Arena, Sono Ice House, and now Stamford Twin Rinks. He has also been a program director for the New York Rangers Assist program and the Hockey in Norwalk Foundation.
In addition to coaching for DYHA, John leads clinics, camps, and CT Breakers spring hockey programs at Stamford Twin Rinks—a partnership with DYHA that offers high-level training in a competitive yet flexible setting.

Buzz Olson
Coach
Buzz Olson coaching career spans over four decades. He joined DYHA in 2009 and currently serves as Head Coach for the Pee Wee A team, Assistant Coach for the Midget Minor White team, and Assistant Varsity Coach at King School.
His coaching background includes head coaching roles at St. Luke’s School, the Bay State Breakers (MA), and the South Shore Dynamos (MA), along with youth hockey programs across Connecticut and Massachusetts. Off the ice, Buzz has held leadership roles such as Travel Director and Vice President at Darien Youth Hockey and Coach Coordinator and board member at Hingham Youth Hockey (MA).
A native of Colorado Springs, Buzz was a three-year varsity player at Phillips Academy (Andover) and skated for both the Harvard freshman and JV teams. He was also a three-time Colorado State Speed Skating champion and one-time Rocky Mountain champion. Hockey has always been one of his lifelong passions—and it still brings him to the rink today.

John O'Neill
Coach
John O’Neill originally from Ithaca, NY and Greenwich, CT, is a USA Hockey Level 4 certified coach and former Level 4 official. His coaching experience includes time with the Greenwich Jr. Hockey League, Laura Stamm Power Skating, Winnetka (IL) Youth Hockey, and Minneapolis Youth Hockey.
Since returning to Darien in 1991, John has coached at nearly every level—from Mites to Midgets—with DYHA, where he’s been a head or assistant coach since 2001 (with a short break from 2011–2014). He’s also coached for Darien’s Sr. House program, Rising Stars, and served four seasons as Assistant Varsity Coach at St. Luke’s School. Since 2015, he has been the Assistant Pee Wee A coach and currently coaches Varsity at King School.
John also leads clinics and camps at Stamford Twin Rinks and coaches with the CT Breakers spring program, a DYHA partner offering high-level training in a competitive but flexible setting.

Seamus O'Rourke
Coach
Seamus O’Rourke is in his second year coaching with DYHA. He grew up in Fairfield, CT, and played high school hockey at Notre Dame Fairfield, where he served as captain during both his junior and senior seasons and earned All-State honors each year. He continued playing club hockey at Marist College while earning a double major in History and Adolescent Education.
Seamus now teaches history in Stamford, CT. His coaching background includes work with the Fairfield Ice Academy, coaching Midget-level teams with the Southern Stars, and serving as JV coach for the Fairfield Co-op high school program.

Darius Souza
Coach
Darius Souza a Rhode Island native, began his hockey career with the Providence Capitals and went on to play for LaSalle Academy. He continued his development in the USPHL with the South Shore Kings at the U16 and U18 levels. Darius later spent four seasons competing for Sacred Heart University’s ACHA Division II team.
He currently coaches teams, clinics, camps, and private lessons at Stamford Twin Rinks, where he’s also involved with the CT Breakers—Connecticut’s top spring hockey program. Through this partnership with DYHA and Twin Rinks, Darius helps provide young players with high-level training opportunities in a competitive environment, while still supporting multi-sport participation.

Matt Stack
Coach
Matt Stack has been coaching DYHA Midgets for over eight years. He played professional hockey with the Adirondack Ice Hawks of the United Hockey League, then the “AA” affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes. At New England College, he was a two-sport captain in hockey and lacrosse and helped lead the Pilgrims to three championship appearances. In 2015, he was inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame.
Matt is a USA Hockey Level 4 certified coach with a strong track record of developing well-rounded athletes. Eleven of his former players have been drafted into the NHL, and he’s worked with a wide range of prep school, Division I and III, professional, and Olympic athletes. His focus is on developing complete hockey players—on and off the ice.
Outside of hockey, Matt works as a Project Manager in the Construction Department at Shoreline Pools. He also played key roles in launching BlueStreak Sports Training in 2004 and Chelsea Piers Connecticut in 2012. He lives in Darien with his wife Tanya and their three kids—Bryce, Avery, and Dylan—and now gets to enjoy the game from a new angle as a proud DYHA/Ice Cats hockey dad.
